The Next Level of Shopping Bags: Funky and Funny Does It

collage1.jpg

Before I continue to write anything, let me just say that these shopping bags are worthy of a post not just because I've been trying to look for Bangkok suppliers for some time now (and still haven't found one) but more importantly, this is a strong testament to the power of human creativity.

There is probably nothing more ubiquitous than the daily shopping bag and for the same reason, it's also one of the most ignored. What could be more interesting than a plain shopping bag? Sure, it's everything.

But before  you get on your high judgmental horse (or stop reading this post), I invite you to see the pictures of the world's weirdest yet most innovative shopping bag designs. The most common of everyday things when used in a very creative way, can send the most effective and vivid marketing message. Here's holding your "love handles" from loathe to a whole new level of love.

Blush Lingerie Shopping Bag

Blush Lingerie Shopping Bag

  1. Blush Lingerie (Germany) In downtown Berlin, the lingerie store Blush offers the public a "preview" of how nice their lingerie looks on the ladies. Customers toting the shopping bags on their shoulders as they walk the city's busy streets - this was one design challenge by Blush to the ad agency BBDO. And yes, it does look like the shopping bag is getting a lot of love. We just hope your grandma or dad won't be seen carrying one. (Photo credit: Adverbox)

  2. Muse Beauty Salon (Japan) Designed by Tokyu Agency, Inc. for the Muse Beauty Salon in Japan, they surely have come up with a smart way to make use of braided samples of dyed hair in the salon's hair dye rack. They may have many samples by the dye rack, but they could also make "potential" use of client's left overs. Wherever the hair may have come from, it still feels odd carrying or holding something by the hair. (Photo credit: AdGoodness)

  3. Meralco Electricity (Philippines) While smart tips for conserving electricity is the way to go, Meralco, the Philippines' leading power company, has taken it a step further. Instead of the usual monthly statement inserts about energy-saving tips, what better way than saying it on a bag with "electricitips" printed on them. Not only are these energy-saving tips handy, but they also send out a message to the public wherever the bags go. Not bad for a country with one of the highest electricity rates in Southeast Asia. 4. Shumensko Beer (Bulgaria) Now, here's a bit more liking to beer drinkers in Bulgaria. Shumensko, a Bulgarian beer brand raises the bar with a whole new definition of beverage shopping coolness. With a graphic bag that has nothing to hide, it shows the person carrying what looks like a case of beer - what else could pump more macho than that. Also comes in handy when you tote anything beverage-related, while saying goodbye to brown bags. (Photo credit: PicForMe)

  5. Kong Shoes (UK) This shoe store wants you to remember them, any time and any place (or they meant lace). This shopping bag puts the focus on the shoes. It's that simple yet highly effective. (Photo credit: Kong Online)

  6. Lipton Tea (Saudi Arabia) This Lipton Tea shopping bag was designed in the form of an extra-extra-extra-large tea bag. Created by the DDB advertising agency in Saudi Arabia, these large tea bags included actual sample bags of Lipton Clear Green Tea and were given to shoppers at a local mall. 7. Panadol Panadol is a migraine or headache reliever and wants to send a message that it is what you need to grab in the event of such pains. So they are grabbing your attention by showing a series of agonizing pain advertisement in these bags. The pain or headache effect is seen more clearly when you either grab the bag by the grips or swing at your shoulder by its strings. (Photo credit: Directory Journal)

  8. Wheaties Wheaties is popular for being the Breakfast of Champions and has always worked hard to creating attention-grabbing advertisements. The “six-pack abs” bags are a great example. Just lift a few full Wheaties shopping bags and soon, you're on your way to six-pack abs domination! (Photo credit: Bored Panda)

  9. Max Factor This creepy looking “Eye Bag” was created by the Leo Burnett (Frankfurt) advertising agency to help promote Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara. The creative yet somewhat disturbing bags were given to customers at some shopping malls and has a free sample of the mascara inside the bag. (Photo credit: Coloribus)

  10. GNC This innovative-looking bag is also called the “Burn Bag” and was used in the Philippines to advertise GNC's Burn 60 fat-burning supplement. This draw-string bag when pulled shows a slimmer waist printed on the bag. Ah, if only our actual body fat is easy to shrink as the drawing of a string, which seems to be the message that this GNC product is trying to send.
